Privacy Policy

Version 2026-08-14 · Effective

What Volta collects, why we use it, who receives it and the choices available to you.

1. Controller and contact

Volta Markets Ltd is the controller of personal data described in this policy. We are registered at 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA (company number 17276243). Contact support@letsvolta.com with privacy questions or rights requests.

2. Data we collect

  • Account data, including email address, name, display name, sign-in records, account status and the policy version you accepted.
  • Location data, including your full postcode and the broader area shown to other members. Your full postcode is not shown publicly.
  • Marketplace data, including listings, photos, seller answers, saved items, searches, villages, messages, offers, orders, collection confirmations, reviews and reports.
  • Support, safety and CRM data, including contact history, consent choices, disputes, moderation decisions and audit records.
  • Technical data, including IP address, device and browser information, request identifiers, security events and service logs.

3. How and why we use data

  • To provide accounts, local discovery, messages, listings and transactions under our contract with you.
  • To prevent fraud, keep members safe, improve relevance, diagnose faults and defend legal claims in our legitimate interests.
  • To meet accounting, law-enforcement, consumer-protection and other legal obligations.
  • To send product or launch updates only where you have consented. You can unsubscribe at any time without affecting your account.

We may use automated tools to analyse listing photos and text, suggest structured details, detect safety concerns and improve search. Sellers remain responsible for confirming listing facts. We do not make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects without an appropriate safeguard.

4. Location and postcode checks

You may choose a postcode already in our directory or submit another full UK postcode. We use a postcode lookup provider to validate it and map it to a broad locality. This improves UK coverage without claiming that every postcode or launch area is already available. Other members see only the broader area unless you choose to share more during collection.

5. Who receives data

We share only what is reasonably needed with service providers that host the application, store images, deliver email, validate UK postcodes, monitor reliability and security, support listing analysis, and process payments when supported checkout is enabled. Providers act under contractual and security restrictions.

Information is also shared with the buyer or seller as needed for a transaction, with village members according to your publication choices, with professional advisers, or with authorities where required by law. We may transfer data as part of a business sale or restructuring subject to appropriate safeguards.

Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we use an adequacy decision or approved contractual safeguards where required.

6. Retention and security

We keep account and marketplace data while your account is active. We then retain only what is needed for legal claims, fraud prevention, tax, transaction records and safety. Consent evidence and unsubscribe records may be kept to demonstrate and respect your choice. Security logs are retained for a limited operational period unless an investigation requires longer.

We use access controls, encryption in transit, backups, monitoring and staff permissions designed for the sensitivity of the data. No online service can guarantee absolute security; contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.

7. Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights to access, correct, erase or restrict personal data; object to certain uses; receive portable data; and withdraw consent. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

We may need to verify your identity. Some rights are limited where we must keep data by law or to protect other people.

8. Children, cookies and changes

Volta accounts are for adults. The marketplace includes children’s products, but the service is not directed to children and we do not knowingly create accounts for people under 18.

We use essential cookies and similar storage for sign-in, security and core preferences. If we introduce optional analytics or advertising cookies, we will provide any consent controls required by law.

Material changes are published as a new dated version. Where appropriate, we will notify account holders before the change takes effect.
